A lawsuit has been filed against a home remediation contractor who allegedly collected deposits without providing services

MIDDLE RIVER, Md. Charges have been filed against a contractor who allegedly collected illegal deposits for home improvement services and failed to provide those services or repay the consumer’s money.

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh announced these charges against Patrick Michael Savage of ‘Extreme Backyard’s’ based in Middle River on Thursday.

They charge that Savage has contracted with consumers across the state to install above-ground pools without a legally required housing improvement license and would collect the deposit before work began. These deposits were often in the thousands.

It is claimed that Savage failed to complete the work and in many cases never even started.

The Consumer Protection Department requests an order requiring Savage to return money illegally taken from consumers, to cease violating the law, to pay for the cost of the investigation, and to pay a fine for its violations.

“If an unlicensed contractor takes deposits, does not perform the agreed services and then refuses to repay those deposits, that contractor is violating the law,” Attorney General Frosh said. “Savage should pay compensation to consumers harmed by his illegal actions.”

If you want to hire a contractor, you can confirm their license through the Home Improvement Commission’s website here.

According to the Attorney General of Maryland, it is against the law for a contractor to accept more than one-third of the total contract price when entering into the contract for the home improvement work.

Consumers with complaints about Patrick Michael Savage / Extreme Backyard’s can call the Consumer Protection Division at 410-528-8662, file a complaint online here or write to the Consumer Protection Division at 200 St. Paul Place, 16th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202.
